In Tuesday's lesson we were given advice as to what working in a news industry would be like, by one of the media teachers at long road called Dave, who had worked onlance and freelance as a writer for a newspaper. Here in the shot you can see Dave near the board explaining to the class, and the blue team Philippa, Alie and James.
Here you can see a rough idea of the minutes I took from our meeting with Dave. First of all, h explained that the conventional layout to working at a newspaper is:
Editor
Deputy Editor, Art Editor
Production Editors
Staff Writers
He explained that a flatplan would be a good idea to use throughout our project, a flatplan is simply a double paged spread of the pages throughtout the project and to work on the double pages spreads throughout, crossing out each page as we finish. This would ensure we are organised throughout the project and I think this would be a good idea to use.
Dave also explained the process that the magazine and pages should go to.
Raw Copy
Subcopy

From Art Dept

He also explained that there were also a number of deadlines to stick to which were important.
1) The Flatplan deadline - a deadline where the flatplan double paged spreads and rough ideas of the information has to be handed in.
2) Copy deadline - deadline where all the writing for the magazine had to be finished.
3) Final deadline - deadline where everything should be finished.
4) Print deadline - deadline to print the magazine.
Overall, I think this information from someone who had worked in the industry was overall very helpful and I think that it will help us in terms of deadlines and organisational skills especially.
